Local businesses award WC Tech Prep Scholarships

The Weatherford College Tech Prep Consortium recently awarded $15,000 in WC scholarships to area students as a result of the annual Tech Prep Scholarship Golf Tournament. The scholarships were awarded to nine area high school students and five current WC students.

“In a time when support for education seems to be waning, our businesses demonstrated their commitment to higher education by generously providing scholarships to help these students get a running start toward achieving enjoyable and successful careers,” said WC President Dr. Kevin Eaton. “I am humbled and encouraged by their continued support for Weatherford College and our students.”

The scholarships were awarded in partnership with the WC Foundation.

The Texas Army National Guard awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Kathryn Witschorke of Mineral Wells High School, and VLK Architects provided $2,500 to Elizabeth Farris of Paradise High School and Cassie Neal of Perrin High School.

Compass Bank continued its annual support of WC through the Bair Hatcher Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to Weatherford High School senior Victoria Aguilar. Kimberly Workman of Chico High School was awarded $1,500 provided by MacDonald Sanders Law Firm.

Christopher Rivera of Weatherford High School benefitted from a Chicken Express donation of $1,000. Johnson Controls and Weatherford Regional Medical Center contributed $1,000 each for scholarships that went to Poolville senior Shauna Moore and Amber Duley of Perrin High School.

Tyler Henderson received the Cathi Owens Memorial Scholarship in honor of the former Weatherford High School career counselor.

In addition to these recipients, $3,400 in continuation scholarships were awarded to Andrea Wright, Ashley Goforth, Ashley Oxford, Josh Box, and Dustin Sparks for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above at Weatherford College.

Tech Prep is a college preparatory initiative that allows students to earn tuition-free college credits for high school technical courses that have been aligned with their corresponding college courses. These credits can satisfy a portion of the requirements that lead to an associate in applied science degree at the college. This educational pathway provides marketable skills for immediate entry into the job market or preparation for further study at the university.
